Der er et yndigt land
Komponist: Krøyer, H.E. 1835 Tekst: Oehlenschläger, Adam, 1823
There is a lovely land
with spreading, shady beeches
/: Near Baltic’s salty strand :/
Its hills and valleys gently fall,
its ancient name is Denmark,
/: And it is Freya´s hall :/
There in the ancient days
the armoured Vikings rested
/: Between their bloody frays :/
Then they went forth the foe to face,
now found in stone-set barrows,
/: Their final resting place :/
This land is still as fair,
the sea is blue around it,
/: And peace is cherished there :/
Strong men and noble women still
uphold their country’s honour
/: With faithfulness and skill:/
Altid frejdig, når du går
Komponist: Weyse, C.E.F. 1838-39 Tekst: Richardt, Christian, 1867
On your way! Be brave and true!
Should the road seem endless,
Walk where God is near and you
never can be friendless.
Stars above the clouds still shine
through your darkest hour!
In the Lord’s own prayer you find
Courage, peace and power.
Live and die for what you love!
Cherish and defend it!
Then you lift your above
Things that waste and end it.
Den signede dag med fryd vi ser
Komponist: Weyse, C.E.F. 1826 Tekst: Grundtvig, N.F.S.
Oh day full of grace, which we behold,
Now gently to view ascending,
You over the earth your reign unfold,
Good cheer to all mortals tending,
That children of light in every clime,
May prove that the night is ending.
How blest was that gracious midnight hour,
When God in our flesh was given,
Then flushed the dawn with light and power,
That spread over the darkened heaven,
Then rose over the world that sun divine,
Which gloom from our hearts has driven.
Yea, were every tree endowed with speech,
And every leaflet singing,
They never with praise, His worth could reach,
Though earth with their praise singing,
Who fully could praise the light of life,
Who light to our souls is bringing.
As birds in the morning sing God’s praise,
His fatherly love we cherish,
for giving to us this day of grace,
for life that shall never perish,
His church, He has kept those thousand years,
and hungering souls did nourish.
We journey unto our fatherland,
Where day is not frail nor fleeting,
We vision a mansion, fair and grand,
Where joyously friends are meeting,
This life we shall share eternally,
Its dawn we always greeting.
I sne står urt og busk i skjul
Komponist: Hartmann, J.P.E. ,1866 Tekst: Ingemann, B.S., 1831
The snow lies heavy on the hedge,
the cold is sharp and stinging,
outside my window, on the ledge,
I hear a sparrow singing.
Cheer up! Cheer up! I hear it sing,
through cold and dreary hours,
Cheer up! Cheer up! - Think of spring,
with sunshine and flowers.
Cheer up! The tree of life for you
shall bloom, in Eden planted.
Cheer up! Your dreams shall yet come true,
your highest hopes be granted.
Cheer up! If faith and hope and love,
Seem cold and weak and dying,
Lift up your heart! From God above
comes life, all - satisfying.
I østen stiger solen op
Komponist: Weyse, C.E.F., 1837 Tekst: Ingemann, B.S., 1837
Oversat af oversat af J.C. Aaberg
The sun is rising in the east;
it gilds the heavens wide,
and scatters light on mountain crest,
on shore and countryside.
It rises from the valley bright,
Where paradise once lay,
and bright life and joy and light
to all upon its way.
It greets us from that land afar,
Where man with grace was crowned,
and from that wondrous Morning Star
That eastern sages found.
And from the east God’s sun outpours
a heavenly light on earth,
a glimpse from Eden’s sacred shores,
where light and life had birth.
The starry hosts bow down before
the sun that passes them;
it seems so like that star of yore,
which shone on Bethlehem.
Vær velkommen, Herrens år
Komponist: Berggren, A.P. 1852 Tekst: Grundtvig, N.F.S., 1849
Welcome here, New Year of grace,
O be welcome today,
Christmas night when the Lord Jesus was born,
Light came to the world with the brightest morn.
Be welcome, New Year, O be welcome here
welcome here, New Year of grace,
O be welcome today!
Easter morn when Lord Jesus arose
He death from its throne fore´er deposes.
Be welcome here, New Year, O be welcome here!
Welcome here, New Year of grace,
O be welcome today!
Whitsunday God’s good spirit came down
with light and great power our souls to crown.
Be welcome, New Year, O be welcome here!
Welcome here, New Year of grace,
O be welcome today!
Year of grace with God’s peace and good will,
Thou bring us joy on each Sunday still.
Be welcome, New Year, O be welcome here!
Dejlig er jorden
Komponist: Schlesisk, 18. årh. Tekst: B. S. Ingemann, 1850
Beauty around us,
Glory above us,
Lovely is earth and the smiling skies,
Singing we pass along
Pilgrims upon our way
Through these fair lands to Paradise.
Ages are coming,
Roll on and vanish,
Children shall follow where fathers passed.
Never our pilgrim song,
Joyful and heaven born,
Shall cease while time and mountain last.
First to the shepherds
Sweetly the angels
Sang it at midnight, a song of morn:
Glory to God on high,
Peace and good will to men
Today is Christ, our saviour, born!
Et jævnt og muntert virksom liv
Komponist: Thomas Laub, 1920 Tekst: N. F. S. Grundtvig, 1839
A plain and active, joyful life on earth,
A treasure never for power or gold to barter,
A guided life, the nobleness of birth,
And equal dignity each human’s charter,
A life created, tuned to that above,
Alert to mans God granted gift for living,
Profoundly mindful of the need for love,
Which God, the Father’s, grace alone is giving.
A life like this I seek for all mankind,
I plan and work a fruitful growth preparing,
And when the seeking wearies out the mind,
The Lord’s own prayer gives me strength and during
The comfort of the spirit comes to me
That God has blessed our human, frail endeavour,
That in his hands alone our soul is free,
And growth will come in nature’s way forever.
A life created, tuned to that above!
A plant is rooted, fed by sun and showers,
The growth, which reaps the care of nature’s love,
Will find its harvest as a seed from flowers,
And though our day of years be short or long,
Creative growth we may to all be giving,
Our fruitful efforts all to God belong,
And sunset glory crowns the gift of living.
Nu falmer skoven trindt om land
Komponist: Tysk, ca. 1640 Tekst: N. F. S. Grundtvig, 1844
The leaves are falling everywhere
And now the feathered legions
That filled with song the summer air
Have left for milder regions.
Where waving fields of golden grain
The reaper’s heart delighted
There only stubble now remain,
The land looks drab and blighted.
But we have stored the gifts of God
In barns and bins overflowing;
And winter brings no anxious thought
As chilly winds are blowing
For He who feeds the roaming bird
And clothes the fading flower
Is ever with us in his word,
The word of life and power
To him we give all thanks and praise
For everything He gave us,
For harvest joys and all good days,
For what He does to save us
He sends his peace the year around
Through winter days depressing,
Through spring and summer, harvest crowned,
He sends his word of blessing.
And when the sands of time have run,
The earthly bonds we sever,
A harvest home, a summer world
We share with God forever.
Then as the birds beneath the skies
That fear not for the sorrow
We reap the fruits of Paradise
Forgetting toil and sorrow.
For harvest here and harvest there
To God we bring thanksgiving
Who will with us His heaven share
As father of the living
Come, Holy Spirit, come and stay
With us when night is pending,
Give hope and love and faith we pray,
Lead us to life unending.
Stille, hjerte, sol går ned
Komponist: Agerby Tekst: Jeppe Aakjær
Heart; be still, the sun goes down,
Smiling over the meadows,
Sheep and cows are homeward bound
Through the deepening shadows,
Heart, be still, be still, the sun goes down.
Silence falls on lanes and lea,
Restless day is over;
One belated bumblebee
Drones among the clover,
Heart, be still, be still, the sun goes down.
Softly now the haze is stirred
From the lowlands lifting;
Over the treetops skims a bird,
Fleecy clouds are drifting,
Heart, be still, be still, the sun goes down.
Far to east the windows gleam
Red with flashes blinding;
Sunset coloured flows a stream
Through green pastures winding
Heart, be still, be still, sun goes down.
